U ndoubtedly, the headline from tonight's Bond Hill + Roselawn Collaborative meeting is that The Port's application for the funding to support affordable senior housing in the Bond Hill Business District has been rejected. The Port plans to reapply in 2020. Michael SmithVice President, Neighborhood Development, The Port This pause will perhaps bring some respite from the whirlwind of suspicion, accusation and rancor that has surrounded the project. While some residents saw potential value in the mixed-use development, opposition was voluble. Many residents argued that the BH+R Plan was being...
Did you see the eerie moon over Bond Hill last night? 9:49 PM, April 17, 2019 The sky was briefly illuminated by the moon as if it were the afternoon sun. It was so warm, quiet and beautiful.
Pushed so far back from Reading Road, it's easy to breeze past the Bond Hill Branch of The Public Library but it's definitely worth a stop. The stylish Teen Scene lounge and the children's collections are really enviable but there are also lots of resources for adults ranging from books to free meeting spaces to tax forms, CDs and DVDs and internet access. Expanded from the charming but tiny 1936 colonial revival building that once housed the branch at the corner of Dale Road and Reading Road, the building was...
I love exploring material culture so I was so happy to come across this tiny piece of the Bond Hill past from Discepoli Pharmacy: It's a matchbook cover! Located at Dale and Reading, you could ring up Discepoli Pharmacy at Melrose 1716 for local delivery that could probably rival Amazon Prime today. I don't know much about what happened to the chain, which was incorporated in 1946 but seemingly faded away less than four decades later. There was a hair-raising robbery in 1956 at the Avondale location that garnered CAPSLOCK...
P olicy wonks, rejoice! While the Bond Hill Community Council generally adjourns during February, this year there will be a special session on the Bond Hill Community Council bylaws. There will be a discussion on the proposed changes to the bylaws and a vote will be held in March. Come on out to the Bond Hill Recreational Center for what is sure to be a rigorous debate. As always: 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 7th, 1501 Elizabeth Pl, Cincinnati, OH 45237.
S kepticism did not stymie the Port's plans at the January 3rd Bond Hill Community Council (BHCC) Meeting. Despite a mixed reception in the proceeding months, ultimately most BHCC members voted to support the Port / PennRose plan to build a three-story affordable senior building on Reading Road. (1) The BHCC voted to send a letter of support with the Port Authority's application for the sale of tax credits that will ultimately subsidize the project. The AYEs carried the vote, 10:4. (2) The BHCC voted to amend the Bond Hill...
T he Port has decided to pursue the first phase of developing the Bond Hill Business District (the eastern section of Reading Road between Dale Road and California Avenue) in partnership with PennRose, a developer of mixed-use developments all over the country. Cincinnati boasts a world-class library system but the little libraries scattered throughout the city offer something different; a casual and authentically delightful take-a-book, leave-a-book chance for readers of all ages to encounter literature spontaneously. If you haven't stopped by the Bond Hill Elementary Little Library at the corner of California Avenue and Matlock Avenue, you should. There is a diversity of books and a convenient bench surrounded by mounding and fragrant Russian sage. It's a perfect place o enjoy the waning warm days of the year. The Little Library is...
CincyFlags is engaged in a 52 flag initiative --one for every Cincinnati neighborhood-- and your input is needed to ensure that Bond Hill's banner represents what makes our neighborhood great. If, like me, you are new to the discipline of flag design, fear not. The basics are really simple. A good flag is distinctive, representative, simple and ideally contains no written text. That's it! Cincy Flags will be hosting an open house style community event at the Bond Hill Recreation Center to gather feedback TODAY from 9 AM - noon....
